Tribute to Doctor Karwowski

Doctor Karwowski remembered - a life saver.

Doctor Karwowski was our family doctor and probably every Polish persons in the local community. He was a very nice and kind man.
In the above photo he is stood next to me. (Taken in 1981. yes I am wearing a suit, its after mass and actually outside the Chapel at Holy Cross Convent, Bury).
He was our Doctor for a long time but when he passed away it was a sad day for the whole community. Thankfully his daughter took over years later.
Wind or Appendix?
In 1978 I had just returned from our usual summer holiday in Poland.
The week before I had complained about pains in my abdomen?
My mum took me to a doctor in Lodz and he thought I just had some sort of stomach upset and promptly dispatched me off to a nearby chemist. I took whatever they were and felt better again.
We used to travel to Poland on the train and ferry and took 3 days each way. (That warrants a separate blog so I wont go into details here) .
So we were home after our 3 day journey.
The very next day was a Saturday and in the morning I start to get very bad pains again, like I am about to give birth or something?
Mum rushes me to the doctor, remember we had no car so we walked to town.
He asked me a few questions then started to see where the pain was - you know the usual does it hurt when I press here
(hard!) yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaoooooooooooowwww I cried out.
Ok he gets the phone and calls an ambulance. Its an appendicitis, I was in hospital and next day it was out. Apparently it was ready to burst and I was lucky it didn't happen on the train or ship the 3 days we travelled.
Once again someone was taking care of me above.
So thank you Dr Karwowski for all your help over the years.
Take 2 paracetamols and sit back on that Cloud next to the Angels.
